Bringing an author to a classroom or library can motivate students. How can we do this with limited budgets? Learn technology resources available that are easy to use and put into practice. Authors can come to your school virtually by videoconference, webcast, or with the use of a webcam or Skype. We'll discuss uses for Google Apps for educators, keyboarding sites, photo-editing types of sites, sights for networking and collaboration, and probably a whole lot more. Learn how their innovative "Virtual Book Club" has made it possible to build bridges between students in different schools and even with the book authors themselves!

Come explore projects and tools to enrich the research process and make the library an integral part of learning. The MICDS library embraces student culture. iPods are allowed; game systems are available for check out; applications like Flickr, Wikispaces, and Facebook are part of the daily experience. Students have rooms for group work, viewing video assignments, and video-editing. Teachers, librarians, and instructional technologists collaboratively grade research projects, offering timely and detailed feedback. Delicious, OneNote, and Zoho Notebooks are used to facilitate the research process. Attendance in the library is up; more books than ever are being checked out.

Join national media educator Frank W. Baker (webmaster of the Media Literacy Clearninghouse website) for this interactive, hands-on, engaging workshop. Come prepared to learn how to help educate today's digital natives become critical thinkers and viewers. Frank will examine media literacy within the framework of the Show Me standards and he promises that you will walk away more comfortable introducing and teaching "media literacy."
